7th Ward Neighborhood Center

The 7th Ward Neighborhood Center was founded in response to requests by members of the 7th Ward to develop a community-based neighborhood center. This center serves as a space where neighbors can come together to connect and organize, participate in the rebuilding of their lives and neighborhoods, access information and referrals to services available in the city, increase neighborhood advocacy in the planning and reconstruction of the city, and work together to address challenges in their community. The center acts as a hub for neighborhood development through activities that:

• Empower residents to improve the physical condition of their neighborhood through an NHS Blighted Property Campaign

• Develop programs that actively engage community members, particularly through art-based activities such as monthly film screenings, performance projects, story circles, theater, spoken word, etc.

• Engage residents in the 7th Ward who are not currently involved with neighborhood groups

• Provide housing counseling and resources to residents that underscore NHS' commitment to help 7th Ward residents become homeowners

In recognition of the 7th Ward's long and storied history as the historic home to rich New Orleans cultural traditions - including Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs, Mardi Gras Indians, superior craftsmanship, and jazz and brass band music - the 7th Ward Neighborhood Center strives to highlight the significance of continuing artistic and cultural practices to the social fabric of the neighborhood. To that end, the Center is committed to sponsoring arts and cultural-based programming, partnering with local cultural organizations and institutions and supporting opportunities for cross-generational cultural education.
