Who We Are Neighborhood Housing Services of New Orleans (NHS) was founded in 1976 as a private, non-profit housing corporation with the belief that a partnership between local residents, financial institutions, businesses, and local government can stop decline, promote reinvestment, and restore pride and confidence in urban neighborhoods. NHS began serving a single neighborhood, Broadmoor, primarily providing homeowners with loans for home improvements and construction management services. Within a few years, NHS expanded services to include the Milan and Freret neighborhoods. In 1991, NHS developed a comprehensive homeownership initiative and expanded its services citywide. In 1999, we opened our HomeOwnership Center, offering one-stop-shopping for comprehensive homeownership services. In 2005, we expanded our services to the greater New Orleans region and, in 2008, we opened an office in Mandeville serving St. Tammany. In 2009, we opened our second Northshore office in Bogalusa to better serve Washington Parish. At NHS, we help people to prepare for and achieve the dream of homeownership. We build and renovate quality homes for working families who can afford to buy; and we help neighbors develop their leadership and conflict resolution skills for strong, vibrant communities. |

“Every city in the US should be blessed with an organization like NHS. During the filming of the documentary series Architecture School on the Sundance Channel, I worked alongside of Lauren Anderson and Neighborhood Housing Services for about a year…[Their] personal commitment to New Orleans housing crisis is unyielding and inspirational..”
