Classroom Training
Once you have met with a counselor and developed your action plan, you be enrolled in one or more of NHS' classes. NHS' educational training consists of two courses:

Financial Fitness
Financial Fitness, a 12-hour course, is designed to help you to better manage your finances and prepare for homeownership. Some homebuyer incentive programs require graduation from the Financial Fitness class. Your counselor will help you decide if you should enroll in the Financial Fitness class.

The Financial Fitness class will help you:

• Maximize your income and reduce debt while building a good credit history
• Set priorities to help you work with limited or reduced resources
• Develop a pattern of regular savings as a means toward financial asset building
• Understand credit and how to protect it
• Understand the importance of the budgeting and its role in the decision making process
• Take control of your financial life through savings, investing and financial planning.


Homebuyer Training
Homebuyer Training, a 12-hour course, is designed to take you through the entire home buying process and demystify it. You will become a savvy consumer, empowered to make informed choices in the homebuying process. Our homebuyer training meets the Louisiana Homebuyer Education Collaborative standards and may help you qualify for special financing. The class is taught by qualified NHS staff as well as banking and real estate professionals.

Homebuyer Training is:

• Designed to give you skills that you will need to successfully navigate through the home buying process
• Designed to help you to identify the tools and resources that will help you to get the house you want at a price you can afford.
• Designed to help you be a savvy consumer for your mortgage, home, insurance and in every transaction related to purchasing and financing your first home.
