Engaging Seniors

The Freret Neighborhood Center works with elders in the community to create enriching social and educational activities, addressing a need heightened by the closing of area services since Hurricane Katrina. Through the Seniors Connecting program, participants have organized potlucks, a catered luncheon, holiday parties, and were the first local group to visit the newly reopened emergency room at Ochsner Baptist Hospital. Seniors Connecting members have reached out to homebound neighbors, helped to ensure that people have evacuation plans during hurricane season, and created a weekly exercise session, hosted by the center
