Progressive Preservation on Freret Street

Freret Street is a happening scene these days. Between Napoleon and Jefferson avenues lies a bevy of new establishments, and nearly all if what we see is bright.  Bright in terms if colorful buildings that house numerous businesses, and bright with regard to the attitude and energy of the residents and business owners, some of whom are true heroes and pioneers (read full article online - pages16-19).


Six years post-Katrina, rebuilding process in New Orleans remains tough for some

About 80 percent of the people that lived in Alexander's neighborhood before Katrina returned home. Yet, deep problems remain: one in four of the houses there are still in need of major repairs. That's where the 7th Ward Community Center is stepping in. A year ago, the center started a program called "One Home at a Time," which fixes up storm damaged homes.
